The Witch with the Flying Head (1982)

Artwork by Kham

After digging around in my Kham poster files, I came across this twisted little gem.

THE WITCH WITH THE FLYING HEAD was a 1982 Taiwanese film about the famed "Kraseu" ghost, one in the Thai ghost pantheon known to lurk about the country. Cursory research into this particular ghost equates it to the "Will o'the wisp" in western society. The Thai version enjoys munching on fresh placenta, as well general filth and excrement.

Thai horror films starring the "kraseu" ghost were pretty common in the 70's, 80's and 90's, but this is the only one I know of that's not a Thai production. Which makes me wonder if this ghost is common to multiple Asian societies, not just Thailand.

Horrornews.net has some more details on the film.

Anyhow, Kham did an amazing job of making a fairly freakish looking ghost look, in a way, beautiful. The entrails even look anatomically correct.

Below are some closeups of the vignettes peppered throughout.
