Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)

Artwork by Prayote

The Capitol Theater is legendary among the Bangkok's theater circuit of the past. Once the flagship screening house of now defunct Capitol Films, one of many distribution companies that used to supply the Thai movie market, over the years it developed a storied reputation that ran the gamut between splendor and spooge.  From their stylish Streamlined Moderne digs on the outskirts of Chinatown, Capitol Films premiered some of the most iconic Asian cinema ever produced during the middle decades of the 20th century.

Films from Japan's Toho Studios, for instance, best known for the likes of Godzilla, Mothra and rest of the Kaiju cast, were first seen by Thai eyes in the Capitol Theater before making the rounds to Capitol's nationwide theater distribution network.

When it came to the poster art for Toho productions, the talents of Mr. Prayote were called upon. His renderings of Japanese Kaiju films have become the stuff of legend among poster collectors. If you've never seen his work, here's a good place to start, GHIDORAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER

For me, Prayote's Kaiju art pours right through my eyes and into my soul. It's 60's Asian kitshe on another level. Nuff said!

Loosely translated, the Thai titles works out to "Other Worldly Million Years Creature"

  1. Awesome poster! There’s another Thai poster for this film I believe, would you be able to post that one as well?
